COVER STORY

Combined Response to Active Shooters

By Mark Clark
The final element of an active threat incident is the response. This encompasses the police response to end the attack, Fire/EMS response to aid and evacuate the victims, and even law enforcement containment response to seal off the scene and preserve evidence.

Features:

LE Planes: Flying High Cover
Planes are the unsung heroes of law enforcement air support units. While helicopters get all the glory, fixed-wing aircraft quietly fly in the background on operations, including surveillance and search and rescue.

Improving Police Mental Health Response
While mass shootings are most prominent in the nation's mind, mental illness is often part of the common calls officers face, including domestics, substance abuse, emotional distress, armed persons, and suicide by cop.

Cyber Security: Locking Down the Databases
Computer security is one of the primary concerns for many of the nation's companies and government agencies. Billions of dollars is spent each year on preventing external threats from entering protected networks. But the sad truth is that most computer network breaches are caused by sloppy internal security policies and procedures.

Columns:

Militarization or Officer Safety Precautions?
Seizing upon the naive theme that law enforcement has become over militarized, Rep. Chris Stewart (R-Utah) recently introduced a bill titled "The Regulatory Agency Demilitarization Act" (H.R. 4934) that would disarm most Inspector General (IG) criminal investigators. His bill would revoke most IG agents' law enforcement authority and take away their authority to carry firearms and to make arrests.

Caught in the Middle of Public Rage Against the Government
Federal officers are not alone in drawing the ire of anti-government types. There's a lot of rage nationwide against all forms of authority...including you.

Act As If..You're the Best Possible Officer
If Wiseman is right we don't all need to get certified as safety experts, we need to act certified. If every time you made a traffic stop you acted like you were demonstrating to a group of cadets the right way to do a stop, what would you do?
