Choosing Optics for Patrol Rifles

By A.J. George
With the increased use of rifles by patrol officers, there comes the need for modern modifications to make them more effective and to better fit the task at hand. One of the most obvious and likely the most effective is the use of modern optical sighting systems.

Features:

The Bulge in Blue

The plan here is to introduce a Monday-Wednesday-Friday exercise regimen that is unique, fast (sub-30 minutes each), and cheap. Do as you read here for six weeks and you'll be nothing less than shocked at the level of strength and conditioning you attain with so little time invested in each workout.

Understanding Armor Plates

Soft body armor ballistic vest packages are rated levels 1 through 4 by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) based on how much protection from ballistic rounds they are rated to provide. Similarly, armor plates are available in two different types or classes tested and recognized by the NIJ: type 3 and type 4.

Providing Trauma Care

It can take time for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to arrive on scene. During that time law enforcement officers may be the only medical care available. So officers need to be trained to supply that care.

10 Actions for Responding to a Veteran in Crisis

Tens of thousands of combat-weary warriors are now being discharged out of the military, often without a game plan as to what they will do next. Many of them entered the military right out of high school, so being a warrior is the only job they've ever had.

Law Enforcement Firearms Trends

Zombies aside, there are trends emerging in the firearms industry, and they have the potential to determine what tools you will be issued in the near future.

Stopping Power: Myths, Legends, and Realities

As a trauma surgeon and a tactical medical specialist, I am often asked by law enforcement officers what caliber and type of handgun ammunition offers the most stopping power. I can't answer that question. Let me explain why.

Nevada's Gaming Control Board

Any casino operator must secure a gaming license from the Nevada Gaming Commission and agree to comply with extensive rules of conduct. These rules are enforced by the sworn agents of the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

Columns:

Misguided Legislation

Disabled federal agents face severe and unwarranted reductions to their Federal Employees Compensation Act (FECA) benefits should Title III of S. 1789, the "21st Century Postal Service Act," become law.

What Are You Seeing?

Everyone is well aware that humans are visual creatures. It is far and away our most dominant sense and that is one of the reasons I get so frustrated that we have so many distracters in our modern patrol vehicles.

Gun Rights: Keep Up the Fight

The Newtown massacre could have as much effect on the firearms industry as 9/11 had on the airline industry. And it may result in the hasty passage of ill-conceived laws and onerous regulations that accomplish nothing but depriving law-abiding Americans of their rights.
